MEET AIDEN

My name is Aiden Hill, and I have spent more than 26 years helping companies turn around failing efforts and achieve success. Four years ago, when I first ran for the school board, I promised to take on school district administrators and staff “pursuing their own personal agendas” instead of serving their stakeholders (kids, parents, teachers, taxpayers, etc.). Since that time, I have been working tirelessly to sweep corruption from our district.

Although it has often been a dirty business, we have made significant progress (including the purging of former district leadership who, according to the East Bay Echo, were named in a discrimination /harassment/retaliation complaint brought by a former, well regarded, NUSD African-American principal).

We are now poised to take NUSD to the next level, with a new high-performing team and culture committed to measurable goals around academic achievement (including STEM and Career Training), school safety, community engagement, and financial health.

Student

Aiden grew up in Berkeley, CA, and attended both public and private K-12 schools in the area. During this time, he was a part of the historic desegregation of Berkeley schools following the Civil Rights movement: 50th Anniversary of Berkeley’s Pioneering Busing Plan for School Integration.

Afterwards, he was admitted to Pomona College in Southern California, where he graduated with a BA in History. During that time, he also did a study abroad in Athens, Greece, and later taught English for two years in Kyoto, Japan. Upon his return from Japan, Aiden spent a year interning at The Economic Strategy Institute in Washington, D.C., and subsequently enrolled in and completed a Masters of Business Administration program in Supply Chain Management at Michigan State University in 1993.

Aiden is going into his 5th year teaching Principles of Business and International Business at Cupertino High School. In addition to his regular curriculum, every year in the Spring Semester, Aiden and his students partner with a Central American-based non-profit called Squads Abroad to help struggling entrepreneurs in Honduras explore strategies to improve their businesses and raise their standard of living.

Prior to joining Cupertino High School, Aiden did substitute teaching at Newark Memorial High School. He then completed his Teaching Credentialing Program at San José State University, where he received a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Social Studies. At that time, he also completed student teaching training at both Palo Alto High School and Mission San Jose High School in Fremont. He later earned a Career Technical Education Credential in Business/Finance from Cal State East Bay. Per the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, Aiden now holds Clear Credentials in both subjects.

FBLA Advisor

Beginning in the Fall of 2022, Aiden took over as Chapter Advisor for Cupertino High School’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Career Technical Service Organization (CTSO). FBLA is a national student organization founded in 1942 whose mission is to inspire and prepare students to become community-minded business leaders in a global society through relevant career preparation and leadership experiences. Currently there are over 5,595 active school chapters nationwide, with over 199,000 students enrolled.

When Aiden took over the Cupertino Chapter after CovidCOVID-19, it was a shadow of its former great self. Aiden used his extensive turn-around expertise from his Helmsman Advisors days, however, to help restore CHS Cupertino’s FBLA chapter to glory. By recruiting a former star advisor out of retirement, revamping the organizational structure, and establishing clear goals, in two years Aiden was able to grow an almost bankrupt chapter with limited membership into a 120-student powerhouse competing successfully in state and national championships. Aiden wants to bring his proven ability to turnaround school programs to Newark.

Prior to moving into education, Aiden spent 26 years in the business world, 17 of which involved running Helmsman Advisors, where he successfully implemented a wide variety of mission - critical projects (50+) for clients across multiple industries. Aiden's expertise was often called upon by top executives to rescue/turnaround troubled initiatives, and his former clients included Applied Materials, Autodesk, Bridgepoint Education, Covered California, Ford Motor Company, Genentech, Impax Laboratories, Kaiser Permanente, Magma Copper, Maxwell Technologies, Microsoft, Sara Lee, and Southern California Edison, among others.

Before becoming an independent program manager/consultant in 2003, Aiden worked for Accenture/Arthur Andersen and Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, where he received formal training in business process improvement, project management methodologies, and information technology implementation best practices.

Family Man

Aiden has been married to his lovely and talented wife Noriko for 23 years. After they were married in 2000, they moved to Newark in 2001 and have built a wonderful life together. Their “baby” is their four-year-old Labradoodle named Hachi, a trained therapy dog (who sometimes visits schools during finals week to bring love and reduce stress). Aiden and Noriko regularly vacation in Mexico, usually in the Baja California Sur area. When not spending time with his students and family, Aiden enjoys doing woodworking and rooting for the San Francisco 49ers!
